The cantilever table is furniture inspired by the materials.  The oak plank top is from a tree felled in Morgan Hill, California.  Its live edges, natural shape and distinctive graining were preserved and highlighted to serve as the focal point for the table.  A small “bowl” was hand-carved in the top as a whimsical element; perhaps it will help ensure one does not lose one’s marbles ...

The top was finished with Tung Oil then allowed to cure for about 30 days, re-sanded, and two coats of wax applied for a smooth satin finish.

The cold rolled mild steel base was fabricated to specifications by San Francisco artist Diana Coopersmith.  The base is finished with two coats of paste wax to keep its natural look and allow it to age slowly.
