Continuing the recent upholstery theme, this is another vintage find and re-upholstery job.
Close inspection showed the chair to be in pretty bad shape--all of the upholstery, padding and cushions had to stripped and discarded.  Most of the frame joints were either loose or had completely separated, so I had some significant repair work to do too.

The upholstery in general was more complex than my last two upholstery projects with much more sewing, including making and attaching the decorative welt.

Before I could recover the chair with the new fabrics, the existing cardboard (yes cardboard) inner backing needed to go, so I removed and replaced it with jute webbing followed by stretched burlap, foam and Dacron for a comfy back.

The seat got similar attention:  I tied up the existing springs and stretched a layer of burlap over them.  I also replaced the worn-out foam it came with and added a layer of Dacron to give it a little extra cush on the tush.

Once the reupholstery was complete, I reattached the back, straightened the maligned front leg and made sure everything was sturdy and secure (unlike the way I found it).

More upholstery is on the way, but now it is time to get back to some wood!
