This is a story that goes back maybe 100 years give or take. I was asked by a relative who shall remain nameless, to use some wood from an antique table and make a wall shelf. When the box of wood arrived I realized my options were limited. So, using the biggest pieces of wood I was given, this is what I came up with. The shelves are dovetailed into the back. The pieces were sized to the smallest piece I was given to keep them as large as possible. Old finish was removed by hand planing and scraping to avoid removing too much material. No attempt was made to remove imperfections in the wood from it’s previous life as a table, holes, dowels, worm holes, etc. were left for character.
